What is the origin of the name for the Constellation of Virgo?

Virgo is the Latin word for "Virgin." The constellation's shape resembles a young woman, and was related to the tripartite Mother Goddess: maiden, mother, crone. What is the origin of the name for the Constellation of Virgo? There's a version....that says virgin....and there's a version.... that says virgo. If you marry the versions, you'll have virtually an answer.

I spent a month and 47 years trying to be able to see those old fabled characters in a connect-the-dot imaginative rendering, standing upon serrated mountain tops of infinite splendor. I failed and for good reason. It's like DUH. No one ever saw those dorky things in the night sky. If you ever tried to begin an organized effort to keep track of all the stars over the years like Galileo or Kepler, you'd draw the stars on the pictures and not the other way 'round. I hope the truth doesn't shatter fragile childhood keepsakes for anybody, but my old science teachers ought to be better versed in the foundations of mystical beginnings of very lofty and very disciplined endeavors such as was of astrological inquests of the days of old.
