An asterism is a group of stars having an easily recognisable shape, like the Summer Traingle, or the teapot in Sagittarius, or the Keystone in Hercules.
On here the teapot handle is on the left, the lid on top, and the spout on the right

If you download Stellarium you can see the sky from any location on Earth at any time of year, so you may be able to identify the asterism or constellation you are referring to.
No constellations are called "The Turtle" but what you are seeing may have another name.
The Plough for example is part of Ursa Major the Great Bear, but is marked on some simple star maps as the Plough and on some American star maps as The Panhandle, since it looks like a saucepan

Pisces Austrinis, the Southern Fish, has a bright star called Formalhaut and a dome of fainter stars to one side, which could look like a turtle with one eye showing. Formalhaut rises a couple of degrees above the southern horizon from my location (54 degrees north) and rises high in the sky in Austalia and New Zealand, South Africa and Chile, where I have had many good views of it.
